DID ANYONE THINK THAT HARRY POTTER IS AN ABUSED ORPHAN? I THOUGHT IT VERY EVIL, SICK AND TWISTED THAT HE COULD SEE HIS NATURAL PARENTS IN A MIRROR IN ANOTHER DIMENSION.....I REFUSE TO READ THESE BOOKS AS THEY ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM... Lips Sealed

I actually love Harry Potter.  It sounds weird but I totally relate to him as an adoptee.

Ok, now the warning... NERD ALERT!!!  I am in love with Harry Potter.  It's true.  I can't help myself. I am a big fat nerd and i don't care who knows it.

I believe JK Rowling started writing her books shortly after the death of her mother.  I think I read somewhere that the Mirror of Erised (Desire spelled backwards) was a way for her to reflect and comment on death and losing those we love.

I also need to point out that the purpose of the mirror was to show a person their heart's desire.  Harry's heart's desire obviously was to see his parents and extended family.  The people who love him.  I actually think that's a very positive image. As an adoptee who has longed for people who looked like me my whole life, I can completely relate.

Lastly, the movies are nowhere near as good as the books.  They gloss over the subtleties that Rowling is famous for in her writing.

Can you tell I'm a Harry Potter freak?  And a lit minor in college?  I'm such a nerd.

I'm kinda lovin the Harry Potter, too, myself.  Part of it has to do with the fact that my nine-year old is a HUGE fan - and when your kids love something, you love it too (which explains why I have attended Mets games when I USED To be a die hard Yankee fan... Cry  and why I know EVERYTHING about trains...and why I listen to hillary duff.... )

But I'm interested in your take on it, Melinda. I'd like to know more about how its part of the problem...educate me... I've never thought of it from any other angle than I can identify with Harry on some level.

(And the Weasleys...who wouldn't want to be a weasley....the biological family I wish I had...)

Oh **** Melinda - I'm sorry - we weren't trying to belittle your feelings - I'm so sorry.
We just joke around too much - cause it's our outlet.
Please know that we weren't aiming it at you.
I'm so sorry that you didn't get to have a reunion.
My b-family are keeping me at arms length - it's been 2 years now - and it **** hurts.
(sometimes I think a total '****-off' from them may have been easier/less painful)
Please know we were not trying to sass you.
Sorry.
(please insert embarressed smiley & a very sad smiley)

(Melinda))  Well if it's any consolation to you, I don't really get into HP.  I was really turned off by the portrayal of his treatment by his afamily.  I thought it was pretty awful that they would make light of that kind of in your face abuse.

Oh Melinda - phew - you're back - I was worried we had frightened you away.
I am so sorry that this is all still affecting you so very badly.
Adoption truly does suck.    Grin
You are right - there are WAY too many triggers out there - especially in the movie-world.
(Disney should be SHOT for starters)
Please don't ever take any of our joking to heart honey.
We're just a bunch of cranky and snarky adoptees that use our snarkiness to tell the world to 'bite me' - in an attempt to stop all the hurt sometimes.
Please stick around - OK.
And do yell at us if you're not getting heard. I know that sometimes when I can't see faces and real feelings that I take things the wrong way.
(we're a rowdy bunch too!!!! - but I guess you figured that!!!)

Hi Melinda-
I read your message this morning.  I wanted to write this morning but I had to take my kids to school.  I'm sorry I offended you, really.  I really wasn't trying to upset you at all.
You know we all have our triggers.  For you it's Harry Potter for me it's Toy Story 2 When poor Jessie gets left in the charity box by her owner.  Oh! I hate that.  I bawl like a baby every time I see it.
Anyway.  I gave you some applause this morning and I'm going to go give you some more right now.
